This morning we all visited our new pediatrician. Maddie and Max’s transfer of care appointment went well.
Upon returning home, I put up a projection screen so that we can enjoy big-screen movies in the comfort of our living room. I’ll review/report on the screen after we’ve premiered it.
But the big local news is from our previous locality, a couple of miles away from where we used to live in Boston. Universal Adam reports that the Boston powers that be will soon decide whether to grant a beer and wine license to Boston’s first Scottish pub.
The story is a horrifying one, and there are many reasons why it might be found horrific. See which of the following horrify you.
- The prospect of a Scottish pub without a license.
- The prospect of a Scottish pub with only a beer and wine license (i.e. one not allowed to serve Scotch).
- The prospect of a fully-licensed Scottish pub.
- Bovril.
- Haggis.
- Haggis served across the street from an animal hospital.
- Vegetarian haggis.
- The fact that Zon’s, which used to be in the space, had to close.
I am truly horrified only by the first and last, and somewhat concerned by some in the middle. How about you?
Boston’s reluctance to issue liquor licenses is one of its provincial charms. I did not know that Zon ever had one. I hope this is not one of those mail-order Scottish Pubs like “Ye Olde Irishe Rose” in Fanieul Hall or whatever it’s called. Whoever it is, they deserve a medal for renting from one of JP’s most notoriously awful landlords.
Zon’s did indeed have a license. Apparently the Wee Angel wants to take over that license, which would probably be easier than getting a new license issued.
