Spring and Safety

This is a public safety post: drive safely and wear your seatbelt. The photo shows the main reason this is on my mind at the moment.

This is my parents’ Toyota Yaris. As you can see, it was in a crash. The crash was not caused by any problems with the Toyota. (I point this out because of the recent Toyota recalls.) Rather, it was caused by another car smashing into this one. I don’t think that my parents would have survived the impact had they not been wearing their seatbelts.

Another reason for auto safety being on my mind at the moment is that I’ve seen the aftermath of a lot of accidents on the roads around here (Silver Spring) recently. I’ve seen more in the past couple of weeks than in the first couple of months we were here, and they were very snowy months. Perhaps people aren’t paying as much attention in the safer road conditions, perhaps they are on the cellphone talking about the sunshine, I don’t know.

But since we’ve lived to see spring 2010, let’s make it a safe one.
