There is now an official WordPress app on the Android. I’m using it for this post. I’m thinking about, but am not yet ready to post about, the relative merits of the new app and Evernote as means of posting from Android.

Quest for Twitter Plugin

I want a Twitter plugin for this blog, and probably for other WanderNote blogs. My first thought was that WordTwit was the way to go. It turns blog posts into tweets. Well, it didn’t, at least not for this blog.

I left a comment at what seemed to be the appropriate post over at BraveNewCode. It received no response for a day or two. Then my bookmark for my comment gave a 404 error.

Unimpressed, I tried another plugin. I had shied away from Twitter Tools, since it offers fuller integration between posts and tweets than I was looking for. But I gave it a try, since its settings allowed me to instruct it not to go crazy.

Well, Twitter Tools did go crazy. Even though I said “No” to “Create a blog post from each of your tweets?” it spewed out a bunch of new posts from old tweets. Ta-ta, TT.

Now I’m trying WP to Twitter. I’m hoping that it tweets this post, and does nothing else. Let’s see… no… let’s check plugin settings and update this post…

Then again, anything for a fellow WanderNoter. A Google Voice invite will be yours if:

you sign up for a free WanderNote account/blog
your stated reasons include “Google Voice Invite”
you provide at least one further credible reason
there are still invites available when you do so.

Condition 3 it there to keep the invites for people who might actually use the blog. When condition 4 ceases to hold, I will update this post. So the fact that you’re seeing the initial version of the post means that invites are still available…

Posts from this blog should now be tweets, since I’m using the WordTwit plugin. There are many Twitter plugins for WordPress. I chose WordTwit because it seems to do what I want and no more.

I’m not as high on Twitter as some. It seems to me like clothes without an emperor. But while there are spectators, I may as well take my place in the parade: that’s me, toward the back.

Many of my tweets come from posts to my other blog, Changing Way, although there is the occasional made-for-Twitter special.

The View From Rockville Library

This blog looks a little different here, on a public PC running IE7, rather than Chrome like at home. In particular, the more recent images aren’t over to the right, leaving room for text to the left. Checking, it seems that the recent posts used align=, which IE ignored, whereas the older posts used class=, which IE respected. I’m geeky enough to check and (try to) fix that, but not enough to look into correct browser behavior.

Rockville library is lovely. I must come back here with a real camera some day.

Travel: Category and Lyrical Theme

I think of this WanderNote blog as having two main categories: one for local wanderings, and one for travel further afield. I don’t expect to be doing a lot of travelling this month, so here are some travel-related songs to kick off the Travel category.

That’s something of a pretext to plug my album of the year for 2009, Dark Was The Night (Red Hot Compilation). The widget is from the album’s web site.

Talking of blog categories, I’ve realized that Local was a pretty silly category name, since it doesn’t specify a locality. I’ve renamed the category to DC: we live near DC, and much of our local wandering will be in the city. The third category, WanderNote, is for content related to the WanderNote service or to the admin of this blog.

First Steps

I’ve spent some time today being WanderNote founder, admin, etc. Now I’ll spend just a little more providing admin service to this blog. That involves pointing the EverPress plugin at the appropriate Evernote notebook.

The first WanderNote posts proper will be at this blog soon… and there they are, before rather than after this post, since the notes are from a day or two ago.

Aspen Hill Library

This isn’t the first post I made to this blog. It appears first because I made the note before I started the blog – indeed, before I started the WanderNote site. The note was actually a snapshot, taken with the Android camera. I’m doing image alignment and text in WordPress.

On Tuesday, my 3yo son Max and I went to storytime at the Aspen Hill library. One of the many things we’re enjoying about our new stomping grounds is the Montgomery County (Maryland) library system.
